THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
Perfect weather conditions for racing at Belmont on Saturday and some terrific performances handed in by a couple of talented 4yo's who could develop into topliners in coming years.
The rail was in the 3m position on a Good3 track which played fairly all day.

PATTIE ME LASS was a very easy winner in this event where they ran good time. Blinkers On certainly improved her racing manners and she went to the line very strongly for Kyra Yuill who had a big day in the saddle.
FLAG OFFICER did a good job battling it out into second after being unable to assume its normal front running role.
SOUTHERN DRAWL was once again competitive and has a win in him in weaker company.
The favorite AVE THE SNIP may have over-raced a touch in the lead but never got the journey.
LETHAL JONES and ASSERTIVE HEIGHTS weren't far away but lacked the dash needed to get into the placings.

A hard race to assess as it appears the 2 favorites may have had excuses. NINE TENORS led comfortably but gave it up quickly in the straight and is reported to have pulled up shinsore whilst COMMAND CENTRE although wide in the run was gone a long way out. Dan Morton is under going some tests to find if there is an issue with the Choisir gelding.
DEMIMONDE was a good winner and cannot take anything away from the performance, she is only a small filly but has performed well. She may have her work cut out once the weights start increasing.
BACKGROUND was given every chance by Troy Turner and was sound finishing 2nd whilst IDENTITY FRAUD improved on its debut to ran fairly in 3rd.
DIVINE HERO is an impressive looking son of Flying Pegasus and a horse who may appreciate further ground, it has struggled to get into its 2 runs over 1000m but has hit the line well.
PUBLIC PERCEPTION only battled and looks a shadow from the horse who won at Ascot, hasn't come on at all since the first prep.

A slowly run 1400m event with RINGMEISTER virtually handed the event coasting along in the lead and strolling to victory. Unusually for such a strong betting stable this horse drifted alarmingly ($3.60 to $7) but was impressive in victory despite getting all the favours. It may have overcome whatever issues it had in a disappointing last campaign.
GALOUBAY, THE CORPORATION and MONEGHETTI all battled away fairly but the tempo didn't really suit there style of racing.
SEE A VICTORY, KEY BISCUIT and OSCAR WILDY never looked likely whilst CALLER ONE who has been a grand campaigner for Neville Parnham has been reitred after finishing last.

It looked an easy assignment for WERD and that turned out to be the case with this 7yo son of Hussonet jumping quickly and never giving his rivals a look in increasing the margin all the way to the line. His trainer Chris Gangemi commented he is improving with age and that run certainly franked those remarks. He should prove competitive over this sort of distance against the best the state has to offer especially when drawing a good barrier.
VIZARD was suited by the small field and was the only other runner to perform creditably.
SPITFIRE ACE and MEGEM'S BOY only battled whilst CLASSY NUGGET is hopelessly out of form and ran accordingly.
BIKE AAROMBA expired after suffering a bleeding attack which was saddening to see, he had been a cheap purchase and a very good performer for his connections.

After some small fields the action began to hot up and clearly the win of the day handed in here by an emerging star in MASCHINO. The acceleration of this hulking 4yo son of Encosta De Lago is a trait only the topliner's have and no doubt he is destined to race in much stronger company. Hopefully connections can fix up the tardy starts as it appears the only chink in his armour at this stage.
A really good return to the track by KNIGHT FURY who battled on strongly after doing work from his awkward gate and looks set for a nice campaign.
A good effort from PRINCE TED who was aided by drawing a much better barrier.
CHESTER ROAD, HI KILMORE and WESTRIVER KEVYDONN were beaten around 3 lengths but had no excuses.

Nearly as impressive as the previous winner was LIKE AN EAGLE who was strongly commissioned in the bookies ring, backed as unbeatable it lived up to that support with a very easy win. William Pike once again rode it to perfection and when asked for an effort it took control quickly to win eased down on the line.
OUR LARRIKIN, WILD CHARGER and SECRET ENIGMA all got to the line well and can't fault there form out of the race. WILD CHARGER had a bit of a struggle getting through the field and could have finished a touch closer but was unlikely to challenge the winner.
GUM NUT GURU ran an honest race but is probably better suited over a touch further.

An impressive win by the lightly raced and weighted 5yo gelding McTango who kicked through to lead and go all the way completing a riding treble for Kyra Yuill. This horse is showing terrific promise as a stayer and looks one to follow in similar races.
OFFER ME JEWELS rattled home strongly from back in the field to get 2nd in a very good display. Conceeding 5.5kg to the winner and a big margin half way up the straight it was clearly doing the best of anything in the race late in proceedings.
ONE COOL QUEEN has struggled to win races but once again got home nicely. She probably needs everything to go right for that elusive win but her recent form warrants respect in similar type events.
The others were coming in at intervals with minor excuses to DEFY ME, AMHERST, CARA CARABINI and WIZAWAY who pulled up with an elevated heart rate but all honours to the winner.

GREAT'N'GREY had put the writing on the wall in two runs back for new trainer Stephen Miller and got the deserved win here with Michael Grantham doing a superb job to get the flashy grey into a nice spot from its awkward draw and punching it out strongly in the straight.
SINGLE WARRIOR continued its good form finishing strongly along with MICKEY DRIPPIN who caught the eye in 4th.
GENERAL ALBERT continues to race well for a veteran and was at surprisingly big odds for its consistent recent form.
THE OTHER HARV had trouble getting clear and finished off well enough but probably better suited against her own sex.
SOUND BARRIER got a mile out of its ground and was then forced wide up the straight. Expect to see it in the finish next start with a bit more luck.
KIM COIN was disappointing given its recent good form whilst SEARING HEIGHTS having its first WA start sat up in the breeze but faded late in the race in a poor effort given its good trial performances.

THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
A good of racing at Belmont run in blustery and overcast conditions which suited horses who could race with cover, horses sitting wide or in the breeze found it a bit tougher than normal.
The highlight of the day was the 4th time win of Idyllic Prince in the Goodwood but there was also a lot to like about prospective Victoria Carnival contenders in Bliss Street and Playing God.

AMELIA'S DANCER was back at 1650m and the drop in distance plus being ridden off the speed did the trick for the Danzero gelding who was suited by the strong tempo set by CHIN CHIN who later faded out to run last.
Given the circumstances of the race the effort by TRUSTEE BROWN who chased up the leader and was in the breeze for most of the race was very good. He was always going to hit the front a long way from home and left a sitting shot for something with a good finish to run him down in the late stages.
MA SHANG looks to a horse to follow given the improved effort with the blinkers on. Paul Harvey pulled him out at the top of the straight and he ran home quite strongly into 3rd place.
XAARPHONIC managed to get away with the field for the first time this preparation and ran a good race at big odds. It could be worth watching over a bit further trip.

BLISS STREET's class shone through and although she was given all the favours by William Pike getting a pie run up along the fence. No doubt there is some improvement to come on that effort and she will only be further suited as she gets over more ground.

The 1000m sprint once again produced an upset result and this time it was Jason Brown who caught rivals off guard by jumping smartly aboard FREETIME and getting that galloper to run strongly all the way to the line. This Danetime mare can be hard to catch as she often mixes form and can do plenty wrong in the run at times but when her mind is there she has the ability to match most rivals at this trip.
JAY JAY MAKSTER ran a creditable 2nd but was given every chance by Ben Kennedy.

In what looked an evenly matched field TEN ACES never gave his rivals a look in making it a double for Michael Grantham and Jimmy Taylor. This horse had gone close in recent starts and sprinted away from rivals early in the straight and held a good margin all the way to the line. The time of the race was the quickest of all 4 1300m events run on the day and TEN ACES was the only leader on the day to face the stiff back straight head wind and go on with the job making the win one of note.
Some other really good efforts handed in and could not knock the efforts of all the horses running 2nd to 8th. PHILBY and BRIDGESTONE in particular where very good efforts coming back from spells, they will only improve in the runs to come.
BLACK FELIX was disappointing and connections must be scratching there heads over his efforts this time in.

IDYLLIC PRINCE got due recognition for his deeds on the track in WA by notching a 4th successive Goodwood Sprint and passing $1 million in prizemoney at the same time. This WFA veteran looked the horse to beat once Jason Brown got him outside the leader and the pace wasn't overly strong. His win made it a treble for Jimmy Taylor, all 3 being sired by Scenic. It was also a double in the saddle for Jason Brown.
PLAYING GOD was a huge effort getting into 2nd place. He had trialled poorly on the Monday and similar to that occasion appeared to be very much on his toes pre-race. Perhaps it was just his freshness coming out but he rattled off a superb last 600m and looks spot on for a big tilt at the Melbourne riches over the Spring.
Like his first up run GONDORFF once again caught the eye making late ground and he looks set for a big campaign in Kalgoorlie which seems to be the way connections are headed.

The last is always a touugh race but punters where on the money backing TRICKY SYD into favoritism and he didn;t let them down winning for the 2nd successive week. He was the 3rd horse on the day to win from barrier 1 and like the previous 2 sat just off the speed and gained the split when it mattered and proved too good.
GREY'N'GREY caught the eye last start and followed it up with another good run just failing to catch the winner. The Verglas gelding has his hoof on the till and should be cracking a win shortly.
NEDIYMS RULER probably isn't a horse suited to leading and to battle on and hold 3rd was a good effort.

The Flying Spur filly BLISS STREET returned to the track carrying 58kg and got there by a small margin over the heavily supported YOU SAY SO who was only ridden hand and heels by Peter Knuckey but was given every chance.
BLISS STREET's class shone through and although she was given all the favours by William Pike getting a pie run up along the fence. No doubt there is some improvement to come on that effort and she will only be further suited as she gets over more ground.
The rest of the field finished in a clump with the exception of VALLEY GIRL who would have disappointed connections.

PRINCESS GRANDERA and TOTTENHAM HOTS were the eye catchers running home strongly together in the middle of the track. Both had super closing sectionals.
The favorite CELEBRATION GIRL couldn't lead but still had every chance in the run but struggled to finish off.

BONTIARA keep her unbeaten run intact by comfortably defeating rivals in a clinical riding display by Shaun O'Donnell. This nicely bred mare by Viscount out of the blacktype winner Kentiara looks to have a good future wherever connections decided to go with her.
KIM CLASSIC had the shades on and put in an improved effort getting a nice run through on the fence. She looks ready to win now.
CONAKEY is a hard horse to catch but finished off well, whilst SIMPLYIRRESTIBLE also got home strongly and looks on the verge of a win if she can find the right race with the tempo to suit her finishing run.
YAMUNOTRI failed to get the 1300m and connections have indicated they will drop back in trip which looks a smart move.

MANTANGO never got into the race sitting 3 wide and consequently dropped out. He goes for a spell after a top campaign for Brett Pope.

ALL FRIARED UP was caught wide and pulled up with Cardiac Arrhythmia so just rule a line through that effort. She now goes for a spell.

RICH KEN was another who put in an improved run 2nd up and can be followed especially in something a bit easier.
IRISH ACTION, HEART PLAY and HENRY THE PHAROAH all had tough runs and can be forgiven to some extent.
THE WIDDER was the disappointment of the race and will have to be re-assessed after his next run as he never looked likely at any stage.

An excellent win to COMMAND CENTRE who was forced to sit 3 wide in running but was still good enough to win the race. This son of Choisir came into the race with 2 trial wins and looks to have nice ability and should be winning more races on that run.
Heavily supported favorite THE WEAPON had a good run and was tracking the winning in the straight but could not close the margin.
BACKGROUND showed good speed to get across and lead the field and put in a good effort to hold on for 3rd.
HARRY HORSE who had been caught wide in 2 previous starts settled a clear last and got home well but was giving the first 3 too big a start. When it draws a barrier it might be a horse to look at backing.

This galloper is now building up a very impressive record at 2000m.
COHORT showed he still has the ability to win Saturday races with a very good effort making late ground with GREATWALL OF CHINA who has started to find some better form in recent starts.

However this race wasn't very strong so don;t get too excited by the victory when it next races.

An interesting race which even with the late scratching contained plenty of early speed. However as often can be the case several riders decided it would be wise not to burn early for the lead which let CELEBRATION GIRL cross from an outside gate and control the race. This Stratum mare is an honst galloper and very good over 1000m especially when allowed to get the lead like today.
IMA CITINPRETTY was the only other horse prepared to push early and be onpace and no suprise she finished 2nd.
The lack of genuine tempo made it hard for other runners to get into the race but MCSCAR was certainly the best of them. This McFlirt gelding was posted wide for all of the race but still out sprinted them in the run to the line to record the quickest last 600m sectional of the day.
Race favorite JAY JAY MAKSTER was given an impossible task from its position but hit the line well. A lot of the other runners got bumped, inconvienced or held up and simply had no chance to get into the race so don;t read too much into there beaten performances just yet.

A good win here to LATORIA who was aided by a good draw and the fact her main rival TIMELY QUEEN didn't assume the lead and had a tough run in the breeze. However it was a very good win and confirms her as one of the better Mares going around at the moment.
ELLE CHOISIT made a big sweeping run from off the pace and continued her good form holding down 2nd. ROCK MOVES led and was given every chance but just found the opposition too strong.
TIMELY QUEEN although running 5th battled it out quite well and she really needed to find the lead to be a serious winning chance. The 59kg may have also told in the finish.
Both SIMPYIRRESTIBLE and WHISTLEDOWNTHEWIND ran home nicely from back in the field and could be worth following in something weaker.

Troy Turner has combined with TRUSTEE BROWN for his 3rd run in 3 weeks which has yielded a 2nd and two wins. He really is in a purple patch of form. This completed back to back wins for the sire Oratorio and was aided by his inside draw and the perfect split in the straight after looking like he was going to be held up between the 500m and the 300m.
KINCAPLE was a top effort after sitting wide in the run and just failing to catch the winner. An easier run in transit and it probably wins the race and is a horse better suited over further ground so is surely one to keep following.
TALK TO THE WALL got a great run through the field to fly into 3rd spot indicating it is holding form.

A brilliant effort by Paul Harvey aboard KID CHOISIR who rocketed home in the late stages to score. This galloper had been in good form and no surprise to see it get home.
SHOCK VALUE finished 2nd and was given the perfect run by Jason Brown.
ALL FRIARED UP ran another top race backing up from the Beaufine Stakes getting home strongly down the middle of the track. The weight increase from the last run probably just made the difference.
BLACKSMITH battled away well but had its chance if good enough. NEW IMAGE was given a gun run by William Pike but couldn't finish off strongly as anticipated. She was backing up after an impressive win in Slow conditions so whether than effort had any impact it will be hard to know as she is now headed for a spell.
Really liked the effort of KASABIAN who took a few bumps/checks in running, sat wide in the run but was still battling on strongly at the end to be beaten only 2 lengths. Certainly a horse to be watching as it gets over a further trip.
GONDORFF also caught the eye making late ground and the 1200m is way too short for it. By the looks of that effort it could be in for a good Kalgoorlie round.

A very tough effort by NUMEROUS SECRETS to hold off MONEGHETTI who had every chance to beat it after getting a gun run on the rail. Trainer Brendon Fitzgerald has indicated that the 6yo son of Numerous Times will now step to 1600m and the way it fought out the race it gives every indication it can perform well again.
In a clever move by Michael Grantham GREAT'N'GREY was sent up to challenge the leaders rounding the turn and fought its race out well to get 3rd. That was its first placing in 4 attempts first up from a spell so expect it may have some further improvement.
REVY JAY who is normally an on pace runner was dropped backed from a wide gate but charged to the line in the worn section of the track. It can mix form but on that effort should go close to a win shortly.
BIG ATTITUDE had to angle for a run inthe straight but was fairly disappointing.

FESTIVAL STAR was caught wide for a period of the race and battled on ok.

FLASH GIFT put in a good effort to claim 4th and could bob up shortly in the right race.
MANTANGO who has had a top preparation just failed to see out the 1600m.

A good effort was also handed in by GENERAL ALBERT running home well from way back in the field and after a good 3rd last start looks to be in its best form for a long time.

THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
A good day of racing at Belmont for the last meeting of the year. The track was slightly favoring those from off the pace as the horses were running into a very strong headwind in the back straight however there were a few on pace runners who managed to kick on.
The Track was a SLOW7 and there were a few horses who seemed to struggle in the conditions but what is more worth noting is the horses who were able to handle them well or improved there form as they will be worth strong consideration under similar circumstances.

Not a great deal to report in this race except that OUR OL' FELLA was just too good for its opposition. This horse now has 3 wins from 3 starts at the Belmont 1400m and the smaller field and conditions on the day suited its style of racing.
The other runners all looked to have there chances. AVANTE who was sharing favoritism with the winner raced a bit flat on past efforts but was perhaps meeting some stronger company.
XAARPHONIC was on its worst behaviour both prerace and when the start was effected, missing away by 5 lengths but beaten much further. Its better suited over a long further anyway.

OFFER ME JEWELS found its right race and was able to win in what turned out to be a good ride by Daniel Staeck. This horse normally settles off the speed but the blinkers perhaps fired it up a touch more than usual and settle behind the leader Aerolink. When that horse began to hang out off the fence it presented a run which Staeck was forced to take and assume the lead. From then on the horse dug deep under hard riding to hold the fast finishing pair of MONUMENTAL and HIBERNIAN.
HIBERNIAN continues to race well but was more taken with the effort of MOMUMENTAL who is having its first ever race campaign and put in a fantastic effort against much more seasoned opposition. This was also its first attempt past 1650m and to run so well indicates a horse with a good staying future. Will pay to follow this horse closely in whatever it contests.

A good 2yo event and GRACETOWN was able to score with a perfect ride from William Pike capitalising on a good barrier draw.
The better runs in the race came from FLYING AFFAIR, WATERMANS BAY and to a lesser extent EL COSTA MAR who were all caught wide in the run and finished off well. The first two in particular I'm sure would have won or finished a lot closer if they had drawn better and both rattled home in quick last 600m sectionals.

A competitive event but surely some question marks over the form here with the bulk of the field within a few lengths of each other on the line.
MANTANGO was given a gun run and ran its usual competitive race to score. For those who can access the replay watch the way young Michael Grantham drives it head out on the line to score - outstanding effort.
ANCIENT SPELL did all the work in the race outside the leader, looked gone in the home straight but fought on valiantly to just go under. Really liked that effect and perhaps a good indication it can handle the conditions well.
GO JORJ got caught tight on the fence but failed to run home well for a horse who was favorite, a disappointing run and may be suited back to a shorter journey.
NEW TIME also went poorly after over racing badly in the run. This horse may need a spell and can forgive the effort.

This race took an unusual complexion when Danny Miller decided to fire NOBLE STEED out in a hurry and lead at a strong tempo. No surprise to it finish well back in tactics that obviously didn't suit the horse or the style of racing on the day.
ANSWERS ARE was very dominant in winning this race sustaining a long run which started before the turn. To hold a 2.25 length margin on the line is a big indication this horse has risen to a new level in this campaign and may be suited over even further trip which is surprising considering it was taking the step up from 1400m here.
3yo (now 4yo) VIEW THE STARS put in a screaming run down the outside of the track to get 2nd and expect to see it going close to a win soon.
GUM NUT GURU is just a model of consistency and once fought it out well.
BRAVE KNIGHT who was transferred to the Grant Williams stable put in a very much improved effort and may have a new lease of life. Could be one to follow in a similar type race.

TRUSTEE BROWN had a wide gate but was yanked back and then able to finish off strongly with the good tempo up front. This horse has got back to its best form now and seems to love the sting out.
STARLIGHT LADY disappointed and may not have appreciated the going.
NOMAD and AVONMORE TERRACE who was wide for most of the race both did a good job.

RUSSELL ROAD delivered its second win of the campaign and once again at big odds. It was favoured by the strong pace set from KELIA and a good ride by Patrick Carbery who got a saloon passage through on the fence before switching around the leaders and nailing ROCKING THE BLUES right on the line.
The 3 leaders in KELIA, GRAND PLATZ and ROCKING THE BLUES fought out the minor money in respectable efforts.
The remainder of the field seemed to struggle although MICKEY DRIPPIN got home fairly. FRENCHMAN was a bit of an improved effort after sitting wide.

HEART PLAY, MOSSROY and PROUD HERO all hit the line well without being overly eye catching.

Comment:
MOONBOUND had minor excuses but only battled, this is about its level. ZESTER was disappointing and may need a break.

Similar to the last race we ended up with a surprise leader with IRISH ACTION fired up in the lead. Ridden totallly against its best style we can forget this run as its previous form was respectable.
TALK TO THE WALL showed its liking for a wet track running well in 5th but has limited ability.
I AM LUCKY had excuses at the start but still ran poorly as did the majority of the others in the event.
Not a race to get too enthusied about as most look to be at there level.

Clearly the win of the day handed in by NEW IMAGE for owner Bob Peters who has unearthed a real smart mare here.
TIMELY QUEEN was given a great run in front and rated to perfection by Shaun McGruddy but could not withstand the finishing power of the winner.
SPITFIRE ACE got a good run on the speed and battled well to the line.

Not a lot to take out of this event, these look to be typical Belmont winter restricted grade runners.

THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
A very interesting day of racing at Belmont on Saturday. It is very rare to see a track favouring the run-on horses in WA but that was clearly the case. Only one leader in Amelias Dancer finished in the placings and every single winner came from midfield or worse in the run with 6 of the 8 winners recording the quickest last 600m in there events.
Whilst all of the wins were certainly meritorious I am a little skeptical on some of the form that will come out of the meeting because of the fact the pattern was very much away from the norm.
The Track started as a SLOW6 and was upgraded to a DEAD4 after race 4 however I think there was no significant improvement during the day especially given the race 2 1400m was run in quicker time than race 8. Prepared to say the track was in the DEAD range all day.

HIBERNIAN and stablemate BURIN backed up from Wednesday and hit the line together with HIBERNIAN just getting the verdict. Clearly both were not suited in the slower tempo of the Wednesday race and good to see them able to backup with better performances. Given there was over 2 lengths back to the third horse there is a fair bit of merit in there efforts.
AMELIAS DANCER battled strongly on the lead which we later found out wasnt really the place to be. This horse has been favorite as its last few starts without winning but shouldn't be dropped off on just yet.
The rest of the field struggld to have an impact and clearly YES WE CAN is not a staying prospect so disregard that run when it goes back to a more suitable trip.

A good win by PATTIE ME LASS who reversed the result on FLYING AFFAIR from the previous clash. PATTIE ME LASS was 3 wide in the run and to finish strongly indicates it has a good future. FLYING AFFAIR although momentarily held up by its stablemate had every chance to win but did a good effort to just fail.

This was a very well judged ride by William Pike to get MOONBOUND home. He bought the horse into the race nicely to beat GUM NUT GURU by a long neck.
I thought GUM NUT GURU was clearly the best run of the race after sitting wide close to the speed without cover and to battle it out as strongly as it did was excellent. It should be winning again soon if it can hold that form.
SAYTORIO's campaign went from bad to worse and after pulling up lame has now gone from a spell. We know this horse is much better than this so don't rule it out next time its in.
ATTADALE showed good improvement 3rd up and looks ready to win now. It was held in a pocket by the winner and probably should have finished closer.
MANAHARA got a run to suit and finished off well, there was specking for it in the bookies ring so it may be back to its better form aswell.
TEN ACES faded slightly in the lead and wasn't beaten far but is a hard horse to catch. The others weren't good enough.

Another good ride by Pike who steered a passage with LIKE AN EAGLE to record an easy win. It was clearly much better than the opposition here putting them away very quickly once it saw daylight.
ROUGE DIOR sat outside the leader and managed to safely hold 2nd spot against the pattern, so certainly can't knock that run.
CASSIDY COWBOY with the blinkers off looked a much more settled horse and has ability. It should go close in a slightly weaker race.
COCKEYED BOB was caught 4 wide in the run but gone home respectably and it will win another race when it gets a more favourable run in transit. PRIBYL and GAVINS ROAD were also caught wide in the run home and may have had some sort of excuse but in reality the winner was just too good.

OCEAN CRACKER continues to race well and was held up for a good portion of the straight.
Oldstagers COHORT, GREY MONARCH and SUPERSCENIC all put in respectable efforts along with GREATWALL OF CHINA and REFLECTIVE STAR who are both slowly getting back to better form.

MISS TIPSY TOPSY made it back to back feature race wins taking this out in impressive style.
This was probably the slowest run race on the day but to sprint home in 34.09 at the end of 2200m is impressive regardless especially when you consider she didn;t exactly have the clearest path early in the run home. Clearly MISS TIPSY TOPSY was the standout 3yo over the winter in the staying ranks and look forward to seeing if she can go on with it as an older mare next season.
SVARA put in a much better performance today to go down by only a long neck. She was given a very good run by Steven Parnham and is a filly who should be competitive over this sort of trip in the future.
BLACK MOMENT who was impressive in winning the Dayana looked a different horse today as it only plodded up the straight but managed to hold down 3rd. Has had a big campaign so maybe the edge was off.
Like the effort of LADYSEA making good ground into 4th - won't stay a maiden for too much longer.

It is not very often in a feature 1000m sprint that you can say all runners had there chance but it certainly looked like that in the Beaufine Stakes.
ALL FRIARED UP is a filly on the rise and took this out in good fashion. The pattern of the day may have played into her hands but she won with relative ease and is a good last 600m breaking the 33 for the run home. Connections are planning some big things with her so lets hope she can continue to measure up in stronger grade.
KID CHOISIR, SHOCK VALUE and BLACKSMITH battled well to fight out the minor money running right up to there ability.
JAY JAY MAKSTER and to a lesser extent MEGEM'S BOY both caught the eye with good finishing efforts. JAY JAY MAKSTER is only a few runs into his preparation and is clearly a horse to follow given he can go into much weaker races with his 73 handicap rating.

Another good win to KERRIFIC who completed a treble for Kyra Yuill who rode in terrific fashion on the day. Pretty much had the race run to suit but can't fault a winning display.
ZESTER was on its worse behaviour and reared at the start taking no part. Happy to sack it going forward as you don;t need that added risk with having a bet.

Not worth going back any further as the remainder were well off the pace and look limited.

THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
Despite not having a feature race on the card some very good racing at Belmont. Not often you will see potentially the best horse at the meeting running in race 2 on the card and I will speak about BARAKEY later in its race report but he is one of the more exciting gallopers to come out of winter racing for a while.
The track was a Good3 and times were on the slow side again and favoring on-pace runners. Several horses raced against there normal pattern to offset this however later in the day the up front pace increased which bought other horses into the races.

WATERMANS BAY took this out nicely drawing away for an impressive 2 length victory. With the blinkers added for the step to Saturday company it certainly improved on its Maiden win at Northam. The victory perhaps strengthens the form of Ave The Snip who ran a close second to it that day and backed up with an unlucky effort last Wednesday at Belmont so. However WATERMANS BAY, the nuggety son of Eternity Range looks a good type with a handy future.
MURPHY'S RED BOY was heavily supported in the betting ring but was forced to race wide the entire journey and no surprise to see it drop out over the late stages. Also pulled up with an elevated heart rate so can forgive that effort.
CHECKPOINT was a tough effort holding down 2nd after sitting outside the leader on debut, it shows enough ability to suggest it will be winning races.
KEMILEE was held up at a crucial stage of the event but only got to the line fairly in the last 100m.
MARADIEGO by Blackfriars and ENDORSED by Rock of Gibraltar both raced at the back of the field and hit the line well. They could be worth following over a bit further in the right races.

BARAKEY completed its hat trick of wins with very little extended effort and the punters who dived in at the short odds never had a worry in the run. Despite this being the slowest of his 3 1000m victories run in just 57.80 he was only tapped up briefly at the 200m mark before being quickly eased down shortly after when he had put a clear gap on his rivals. There is no doubbt the winning margin of 2.75lengths could have been much further if Jockey Jason Brown had wanted it to be. He will now go for a spell and I'm sure will be tested to his full potential when he meets some of the better sprinters over the Summer Carnival.
GO JORJ clocked the quickest run home sectional and I'm sure connections will be looking forward to its next start without Barakey in the effort. This horse is very close to a win.
ROCK MOVES resumed without a trial and although aided by its good barrier ran a nice ran in second spot. Cannot fault its effort.
NONAME CITY raced wide for most of the effort but still finished off good into 4th .
CARBINE STREET who was a trial winner coming in used up early petrol to get on the back of Barakey but wilted badly over the late stages. The effort on face value was disappointing but perhaps could be forgiven, watch to see how it goes next start.

This was an interesting event which seemed to be slowly run in the early stages and was eventually fought out by the leaders GUM NUT GURU and LIE IN WAIT.
LIE IN WAIT had respectable form coming in and despite winning at double figure odds the victory wasn't a surprise. The horse is a good performer but needs to get the right race to show its best and had that here.
GUM NUT GURU had everything go right for it in the lead and battled well to the line for second.
NOBLE STEED got home the best of anything in the back of the field and its effort was good.
STRIKING GURU was strongly fancied in the betting ring but failed to perform and has since pulled up sore and is going for a spell.
MIGHTY ROSSA did a fair bit wrong in the run and raced wide before dropping out, it may be due for a freshen up or a spell.

A clever ride here by Kyra Yuill to slide forward with AVANTE and sit outside the leader in race which didn't have a lot of pace engaged. Despite the winning margin being only a head don't under estimate how good the winning effort was as it is a much better horse coming from off the pace.
KERIEGN was a very good run resuming and is a horse who normally takes a few efforts and increased distance to get to his best form, the rising 7yo could be in for a very good preparation.
GOLDY JUNIOR and CATCORP both caught the eye flashing up late down the middle of the track and liked those efforts especially if they can get into some easier events in future racing.
BASKERVILLE STREET who was second favorite in the event had every chance in the run but was disappointing over the late stages, not sure I can follow it now unless we see improvement next start.
GLEN ERIN LAD looks likely to be retired after a second successive poor run.

Similar to the Avante race it was a change in riding tactics that paved the way for CAVES ROAD to record another impressive victory. Good to see this horse adapt well to its front running role and go to the line in strong fashion. Looks to be a horse on the way to the highest level and with scope to get over a bit further ground than the 1400m too.
NEW TIME caught the eye making a long sustained run from the tail of the field, it has been running some very good races without winning and can occassionally switch off in its races so has plenty of scope for improvement. Next preparation will good just see it furnish into a much more complete galloper.
MANTANGO was perfectly ridden by young apprentice Michael Grantham and lost no admirers with a good second place showing it can run out 1400m well.
LIKE AN EAGLE was strongly supported in betting and raced outside the eventual winner but couldn't match it over the late stages. It has done a good job in its first preparation.
BELORA raced wide but still battled on well to run 6th, so cant fault the run.
JOBETH was clearly the best of the non-fancied runners and could be worth following in weaker grade.

Many times in racing the best horse doesn't take out the event and this looks to be one of those races. We saw the best of 'the Pontiff' Paul Harvey at work here aboard ELLE CHOISIT keeping the favorite FRIDAYS GIRL in a pocket during the run before going for home and holding it at the bay over the late stages.
ELLE CHOISIT had been racing well and the Blinkers obviously some extra improvement as it was a good game effort sitting 3 wide the entire event and cannot take anything away from the win.
FRIDAYS GIRL was simply the victim of circumstances and not a great deal Jason Whiting could do, punters should get a chance to recoup any losses in future starts.
SIMPLYIRRESTIBLE may have relished a change in training environment as it showed some improvement with new trainer Sussannah Hoppmann and got to the line well.
SOUTHERN COMFORT and SEE A VICTORY both had trouble getting runs over the latter stages along with SKY MAGIC who I thought did a good job in its return to the track.

INCOHERENT made up for an unlucky run last start by taking out this event in good fashion. It was a well judged ride by Shaun O'Donnell who continues to impress in the saddle. This horse is racing well although may find it a bit tougher next start as it will have to go up in grade or weight.
Really liked the effort of KELIA who took the step to Saturday grade after 2 good Northam victories. The 4yo Dyslexia gelding fought the race out well doing a good job in second spot.
YSMAEL was the eye catcher in the event and probably should have got a bit closer after being impeded at the 300m mark. It got home in clearly the quickest last 600m of the event and although its racing pattern does dictate it needs some luck in running won't stay a maiden for much longer.
EXTRA BEAT got caught wide in the run but was still entitled to do a bit better whilst the rest of the beaten runners where only fair efforts at best.
The favorite MONEGHETTI is very much an on/off galloper. It struggled to get into this race and was very much off but no surprise to see a better effort at its next start.

Always exciting to see promising gallopers returning and we had two here in BLACK FELIX and NEW IMAGE. Had a good look at both pre-race and thought they were close to the mark but with room for improvement on whatever they did here. As it turned out they put in contrasting performances.
NEW IMAGE put in a brilliant display to take this out and was a 10/10 ride by William Pike slicing his way through the field from a rearward position. This nicely bred mare will be very hard to beat going forward and should graduate to the top level.
BLACK FELIX was ridden forward from its good gate but wilted over the late stages, perhaps the early speed was too strong with the other leader SPITFIRE ACE finishing last but would have expected a lot more from a Listed winner. Will reserve further judgement until after its next run.
The fact that the two leaders and also 4th in running LADY DOLL all dropped out makes the effort of TIMELY QUEEN who battled on strongly to hold 3rd after over-racing on the speed all that more impressive. When this Danetime mare finds a race where she can dictate in the lead I believe she will be back in the winners enclosure.
OUR OL' FELLA continues to hold its good form running home strongly along with THE CORPORATION who I thought put in a good performance for its first run back.

Hard to find any excuses for the others in the event.

I am going to post these Perth Racing articles to my blog as they dont have an archive function and I can look back later for reference on here.

THE MONDAY REVIEW with Aaron Delaporte
The Belmont Oaks Day meeting was run on a Good2 track but the overall times across the board were below normal, the track looked to be a touch chopped up from recent racing on a rain affected surface, the cold weather and overcast conditions probably also contributed.
The track played very evenly and did not advantage any type of runner.

FLYING AFFAIR got back to better form with a solid win here. I Suspect it could have won by further and switch off at the finish when Harvey relaxed a bit thinking the race was won.
A good effort by PATTIE ME LASS in second who kept hitting the line well in the late stages - extra distance would be suitable for its next start.
YOU SAY SO got to the line ok and wasn’t a bad effort.
AKHEDASSET had some excuses and can be forgiven but looks to a horse who needs to race on-speed to show its best.

A good ride by Steven Parnham to get SMART TWISTER home in what is a pretty even bunch of stayers.
With HAWKEYE MORT being ridden off the speed he was able to dictate the race to suit and won it in good enough fashion. On a different day with a bit more on-speed pressure the result could have been different.
OFFER ME JEWELS was clearly the run of the race and looks to be at full fitness now getting home well into 2nd, suspect he is ready to get back into the winners stall soon.

A terrific return by the classy filly ALL FRIARED UP who probably has some improvement to give on that run being set for some better races.
The tempo was strong which did help those coming from off the speed.
TIMELY QUEEN was a good effort boxing on strongly after getting a good run in transit, she will win more races when she gets a suitable race.
NONAME CITY and MEGEM’S BOY both ran well and up to there ability. JAY JAY MAKSTER caught the eye with its strong finishing effort and looks set for a good campaign.
OROYA GOLD was at an unsuitable distance but finished off the race nicely, can see it playing a part in some good races for the rest of its preparation.

MORANT won as expected but got all the favours in doing so. Perhaps got to the front too early and switched off late but it was a fairly effortless win.
TEN ACES battled on well to hold 2nd from ZESTER and MIGHTY ROSSA who had every chance.
NO JURISDICTION over-raced a bit on a moderate tempo but finished off well. It looks a horse with enough ability to win races here in WA and can be followed.

Hard to take much out of this race which was run at a very slow tempo for the class of gallopers engaged.
GOD HAS SPOKEN settled best and got all the favours to put in a good effort to win. It was a much better performance from this galloper who had struggled in recent starts. I will reserve judgement on whether it is back to its absolute best after next start.
KING KOOL KAT and BATTLE EMBLEM did good jobs after over racing in the run.
IMPRESSIVE JEUNEY was a big flop but the riding tactics looked to be against her, she is much better than that and hopefully just a blip on the radar against her very good overall career form.

The winner was well ridden and finished best to score. The first 7 across the line were all good efforts and look to have staying potential for the future.

A very slowly run affair which heavily favoured the leaders however MISS TIPSY TOPSY was still good enough to sweep around them and win impressively.
THE OTHER HARV ran into dead ends all the way up the straight but flashed late into 4th, it was very unlucky.
The favorite SWEET SERENITY was ridden against its normal pattern but given the race was slowly run probably should have done better, it may not have got the journey.
SVARA had every chance and was disappointing.
The remainder were fairly average and I expect these fillies will all be best suited against there own sex or low grade in future racing.

Another race that was run fairly slowly run which was a bit surprising given the big field.
This allowed out of form horses such as REVY JAY, I OWE YOU, GENERAL ALBERT and HIGHEST HONOUR to finish in the first half of the field after racing on pace.
The winner was clearly the best run here coming from a midfield position to win comfortably.
REVISTED finished strongly and put in another good performance to back up its first up run, won’t be long before it wins a race.
Those in the betting who settled back in the field particularly MASTER MARLON, MERIMBULA and MODERT ART can be forgiven as they could not get into the race off the slow tempo.
ROSE OF MAY can also be forgiven as it over-raced after stumbling badly at the start, its best racing is from an on-pace position and was so was never a winning possibility.

Comment:
The majority of the others disappointed.

The others generally struggled and had no excuses.

SENSE OF PURPOSE did a good job at her first start in top grade.

Comment:
A very good race here run at a strong tempo which favoured those coming off the pace.
The winner was well ridden and finished best to score. The first 7 across the line were all good efforts and look to have staying potential for the future.
MR VADIM probably went too hard in front and although dropping out badly in the late stages may be a horse to forgive for its next preparation – it has scope for further improvement.

Comment :
A very slowly run affair which heavily favoured the leaders however MISS TIPSY TOPSY was still good enough to sweep around them and win impressively.
THE OTHER HARV ran into dead ends all the way up the straight but flashed late into 4th, it was very unlucky.
The favorite SWEET SERENITY was ridden against its normal pattern but given the race was slowly run probably should have done better, it may not have got the journey.
SVARA had every chance and was disappointing.
The remainder were fairly average and I expect these fillies will all be best suited against there own sex or low grade in future racing.

Comment:

Barracking for Barakey
Part of the excitement of being an ethusiastic thoroughbred racing follower is finding that next superstar of the turf and watching his career unfold.
WA has had the privelege of unleashing some of the best sprinting talent on Australia with horses like Placid Ark, Miss Andretti, Scenic Blast, Marasco and more recently Hay List and I reckon we have another one on the scene now in Barakey.
After seeing this horse trial twice at Belmont I confided to a few close racing friends that I thought this horse could be something special. He was related to 2 stakeswinners and on sheer raw talent from what I saw in those trials compared to his relations he looked to be just as good if not better. Thankfully he has not disappointed on raceday.
As a punter you don't get many chances to back a really good horse in low grade races but often with the benefit of hindsight they are just terrific bets. How many punters would knock down there grandmothers to get on Black Caviar at $3 which was her price on debut in an average 2yo race. Unfortunately Barakey was only $1.70 on debut and $1.40 at his latest start but as they say in the classics "its better than bank interest" and whilst I won't be able to retire on those odds I doubt you find better no risk propositions.
Some people will say he hasn't beaten anything yet but it is not who you beat but how you beat them. His times and ease of the win just say it all. Plus I just love it when a trainer has a good horse and they know it. Jimmy Taylor has been around a long time and doesn't get too carried away with things but you have to take notive when he gives them a wrap. His classic comment after the last win was that he had 6 to 8 lengths up his sleeve and heaven help anything against him if that is the case.
I have been fortunate enough to be oncourse to see Barakey in his 2 starts so far and I plan on being them to see him whenever or wherever he starts for the rest of his career. This Saturday he will make his presence felt once again at Belmont. The feature race will be the Belmont Oaks but I suspect there will be a lot more interest in Barakey. Eastern States racing media has already got him on the radar due to Jimmy Taylor making comparisons with Hay List and I'm hoping he develops just a big a following.
Of interest this Saturday will be how many runners are prepared to take him on and what price bookies will bet. I suspect not many and very short will be the answer.
I jokingly made reference that Black Caviar will not come to Perth for the Winterbottom because they want to avoid having to clash with Barakey but imagine if she did come and Perth had a legimate challenger. With Perth moving to a super Saturday with the Railway on the same day I expect it could be the biggest day of racing Ascot has ever seen.
Anyway I invite everyone to join in on the journey of Barracking for Barakey.
Thanks to Perth Racing for posting his last win on Youtube and welldone to Darren MacAullay for such a great call and recognising his greatness in just his 2nd start.

Belmont Jock Challenge 29.06
Have hit a bit of slump in recent weeks - thankfully we are still playing with profit.
Russell Hanson was our top pick at Kal on Sunday but he looked a bit of unders at odds-on, that proved to be incorrect as he rode like a demon to score 4 winners.
Today at Belmont we fancy Peter Knuckey to have a good day. Hopefully old Knuckles can do the right thing and get a few winners today. Ryan Hill is the value backup.
Jockey Challenge
Name *Rides Price
PKnuckey 6 $2.4
WPike 5 $4.2
JBrown 3 $10
RHill (2.0) 5 $12
PHarvey 4 $15
MGrantham (3.0) 4 $24
Any Other na $30
KYuill (1.5) 4 $50
*Rides considered point scoring chances
Using our new blance of $1,205 and the Kelly system bets are
Knuckey $203 @ $3.20 - profit of $411 if successful
Ryan Hill $36 @ $15 - profit of $301 if successful

Million Dollar Challenge Bet 4
Bet 3 came through for us but not without a scare as a poor kicking Collingwood let Sydney back into the contest but thankfully did enough to reclaim the lead and hang on. The tennis bets and the other footy match were never in doubt.
For Week 4 I will combine Tennis and Footy again but a bit simpler with just one bet from each code.
Tonight at Wimbledon home crowd favorite Andy Murray takes on Feliciano Lopez -ranked 4th and 44th respectively.
Murray has beaten Lopez all 4 times they have clashed with a 8 sets to 1 advantage.
The last tournament they both competed was on grass and Lopez was beaten narrowly by Andy Roddick in the 2nd round before Muray took Roddick out in convincing 6-3 6-1 fashion in the semi finals.
Lopez squeaked through his last match at Wimbledon in 5 sets and it looks like Murray can take him to the cleaners tonight - $1.10 appeals as a decent price.
This Saturday night Geelong take on Essendon. Geelong come in with a very easy win over Adelaide whilst Essendon's form is going backwards after getting smashed by Hawthorn but also losing a few previous matches.
Geelong will be regaining some good players and those in the side are desperately trying to impress the coach and selectors for finals time so I don;t expect any slackening off. Essendon have lost all system and confidence - think this could be another belting for them.
Once again we will take the $1.10 for the win and an ALL-UP price on both bets of $1.21.

$400 from our bank at $1.21 produces a profit of $84. $80 will make the new balance $480 whilst our retained amount will go to $13.66.
Fingers Crossed.

Kalgoorlie Jock Challenge 26.06
Have decided to have a play with the Jock Challenge today at Kal.
Yesterday as Belmont Pike was too good booting home 3 winners whilst my main bet Yuill had a day she would rather forget butchering a few good rides and coming up with limited points. My longshot Staeck did ok with 5 pts but never challenged Pike.
Today at Kal is very limited with small fields and only a few riders dominating proceedings.
